What Are The Best Online MBA Programs?

Online MBA Programs, also known by the moniker “distance learning” MBA’s are becoming more and more ubiquitous.  While the number of programs has exploded over the past few years that is not to say that all the programs are of the same quality or that all online MBA programs are interchangeable.  Generally, the online programs fit into one of two categories; those that are ‘virtual’ schools such as the University of Phoenix and Devry’s Online MBA, and those that are given by established ‘bricks and mortar’ institutions such as the University of Maryland and Duke University.

Online MBA Programs that are given by ‘virtual’ schools are more plentiful than those given by traditional schools.  There is a wide range of prices and time frames and for the person that is looking to get an MBA ‘on the cheap’ this is certainly the way to go.  Tuition for online programs in the 2004 to 2005 academic year ranged from $9,120 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to $18,070 at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.  In addition, many of the ‘virtual’ programs can be pretty lax in terms of deadlines for completing all materials and curricula for the degree.

This can be good for someone that plans to complete the program in parts or who works and wants to take a long period of time or even breaks between the different courses.   Most, however do have a ‘maximum’ time in order to complete materials.  Another thing to keep in mind is that ‘virtual’ programs tend to have somewhat lax admission requirements…some with the only requirement being a bachelors degree.  Some of the more popular ‘virtual’ universities include the University of Phoenix, Devry’s Keller School of Management, Strayer University, Walden and Capella.

There is no question that Online MBA Programs given by established brick and mortar institutions are a different breed than those offered by the ‘virtual’ schools.  But to be honest, they are also catering to a different audience.  In general, those offered by traditional institutions have higher admission requirements, cost more and also have more rigorous curriculums.

The best online MBA program is widely considered to be Duke University’s Global Executive MBA, but the program is not entirely online and requires 5 two-week in-class sessions including time at the campus in North Carolina as well as two weeks each in Europe, South America and Asia.  Compared to a full two-years on campus for the regular program, this might be a good tradeoff to get a top-notch nationally recognized MBA.  Other well known schools that offer online programs but without in-class requirements or at least very little include Syracuse University, the University of Maryland, the University of Michigan at Flint and Univ of Mass at-Amherst.

While almost none of the Online MBA Programs says it is an ‘online program’ on the degree once it is received, it is hard to believe that ‘virtual’ schools would carry the same prestige and job-getting power as a well known nationally recognized school such as Duke, U of M or Syracuse.  All of the programs whether virtual or brick and mortar require a heavy dose of self discipline and motivation.  One of the benefits of being in a classroom with other students is the group motivation that being around other students provides.  You might enjoy the luxury of doing your class work in your PJs but be prepared to keep yourself motivated.

Overall the Online MBA offers a good option for a wide variety of different situations while offering a range of quality programs depending on a person’s needs.  For more great information about Online MBA’s please visit www.MBAonline.me.

Should Doctors Pursue An Mba From The Best Mba School Kolkata?

Are you a Kolkata based young doctor who is not quite happy with the way his/her career is shaping up? Do you feel that you lack the essential management skills? If so then this is an article for you…

If you are a doctor with a graduate degree in your name, and want to increase your prospects in your trade, then you probably might be thinking of pursuing a master degree. The most preferred post graduate degrees opted by most doctors are MD or MS. These degrees are known to provide a more in-depth knowledge to the doctors in their field. These degrees allow the doctors to specialize and thus better their career prospects in the field of medicine.

However off late there are many doctors who are pursuing MBA as a post graduate degree. Although not a very popular choice among most doctors at present yet it cannot be denied that, MBA is gradually gaining importance among doctors who are keen to shift towards the management side of medicine. Doctors who are pursuing a management degree are finding great jobs in the areas of Hospital Development and Administration or Medical Product development and management. These are some of the jobs that place utmost responsibility on the part of managers and hence are placed on the top list when grading jobs in the medical field.  They are well paying as well and this is a reason why many doctors are gradually shifting to this field. Also, doctors who have a management degree need not necessarily quit their medical practice, and this is probably another major reason why many doctors are opting for an MBA.

Thus, if medical students want to pursue a management degree from the best MBA School Kolkata, they can do so for the following 2 reasons:

1. They do not want to stay in the medical field anymore and want to shift to a totally new field in which their medical history holds no importance. Management gives a completely new scope to everyone and hence can be pursued without much ado.
2. They have a good experience and practice in the field of medicine and believe that they will be able to work better at the management level of the hospital or medicine, where their management degree as well as medical background will hold as much importance for being a good manager.

It is precisely for this reason that most foreign universities have now introduced an integrated MD/ MBA degree which will help the students become better managers in the field of medicine. But in case you are more interested in clinical research and in-depth knowledge of medicine, then perhaps an MD/ MS degree will be better for you.

In the west there are Master degrees in Public Health Care and also Executive MBA programs for doctors that help widen the knowledge and scope of doctors in the field of medicine. The foreign MBA programs for doctors are intended to make them better trained and educated to handle any situation or emergency that can arise in the field of medicine. Doctors are also trained and encouraged to start public healthcare programs and organizations to better the state of the under-privileged and needy in order to support a good cause.

In India such programs are not yet in vogue but it has been seen that various top schools, including top business schools in Kolkata are having an increasing number of doctor applicants every year.

Question About My Career? 10 Points For Best Answer~?

I am 23 years old and about to graduate with a finance degree from College. I knew, going into the program that I would NEVER EVER work in finance (I suck at mathematics), but my father said I must study finance for something practical but, after that, he would pay for me to study whatever subject that I want at the postgraduate level.

Now, is time to apply, but I don’t know what to study:

1. MBA Programs – lower-tier programs, not Harvard-type, so that I could work as a Mitt Romney-type business executive; or I was thinking about teaching business at the college level, for which MBA is prerequisite.

2. Journalism Programs – both master’s and college diploma programs. To work as a journalist, but competition is stiff – to be honest I just want to be famous.

3. Teacher’s College. Teach high school business studies.

4. Lastly, even though I am not applying for a Poli Sci program, I would like to enter politics one day.

All three of these pull at certain parts of my personality. I don’t know what to do.
